San Miguel County Courthouse, Las Vegas, New Mexico

In the other Las Vegas, the one 50 miles east of Santa Fe in New Mexico, the SAN MIGUEL COUNTY COURTHOUSE dates from 1912 and occupies a prominent site in the city, although not on the town square. It is constructed in the Territorial style, with stucco exteriors, flat roofs, and exposed roof-beam ends. An interesting aside; the presiding judge in the 1950's built his residence across the street (approximately where the camera is placed here) so that he could walk between residence and courthouse just by crossing the street. Several blocks away, the town square splits the main commercial street with a green of several acres surrounding a bandstand. (Incidentally, careful observers will note that the the square figures prominently in the TV series Longmire as the location of its "Apsaroka County, Wyoming, Sheriff's Office"!)
