The 1827 MORRIS COUNTY, NEW JERSEY, COURTHOUSE contains this one courtroom, although a large court complex has since grown up about it. The
symmetry and balanced look of the space is dramatic, with the judicial area set off by a rail on three sides and the jury box outside the rail on one side, opposite additional public seating on the
other. The "pool cue rack" on the far side contains staffs for the tipstaff, a predecessor of the bailiff. The large courtroom has a small balcony and is essentially monochromatic, decorated
with a circular plaster ceiling-frieze.
